about

Smilingly accept the plate you are served without flinching. Stepford wives all of us, robotic exteriors and sensitive insides, hidden from view for the courtesy of others.

Describing an unwanted experience as heaven on a plate feels like the ultimate inaccurate reaction, the most extreme hyperbolic distraction from our true feelings. We are trained to accept inequality, to thank people for situations we have never wished to be in. Most of the time people don’t see our struggles and this social mask only makes things harder.

The song was written very quickly in a single afternoon and reflected the angular, frustrated mood I was in. I used the cut up titles of my science fiction book collection as a way of populating the melody, its a method I’ve used before on Kopenhagen, I find it often helps open unnatural channels of thought and acts as a kind of escapism from a regular narrative. I have a habit of springing new songs on my band the night before a gig, the sense of urgency can really engage people and it feels nice to have the camraderie that entering the unknown can evoke.

I think I would describe it as having a kind of euphoric despair.

lyrics

The penultimate truth,
The first men on the moon
Nice to be with you again,
Time out of joint I am the unteleported man,

Take another day, they'll say your so brave,
They'll say your so brave,
It's just another lie right to their face,
Heaven on a plate, Heaven on a plate,
It's just another lie right to their face,
Heaven on a plate, heaven on a plate

Life! In his own words,
Breakfast of champions,
Electric Warrior's at work again,
The left hand of darkness,
Life as an omnibus,

Take another day, they'll say your so brave,
They'll say your so brave,
It's just another lie right to their face,
Heaven on a plate, Heaven on a plate,
It's just another lie right to their face,
Heaven on a plate, heaven on a plate

But you don't have to see me,
When I'm at my worst,
No you just have to believe me,
No there's nothing worse,
You don't have to see me,
When I'm at my worst...

Take another day, they'll say your so brave,
They'll say your so brave,
It's just another lie right to their face,
Heaven on a plate, Heaven on a plate,
It's just another lie right to their face,
Heaven on a plate, heaven on a plate...

Hey!

about

Jemma Freeman and The Cosmic Something London, UK

Known previously for their song writiing
with dreamy psych band Landshapes (Bella Union) Jemma has tinged this with energetic glam
rock. Lush guitar tones and introspective psychedelic lyrics bound together with
unbounded energy. Colliding themes of secret worlds, hidden
agendas, apathy and anxiety, Jemma’s sonorous voice tells a story of unravelling
completely and tying yourself back up again.
